project life | going digital for 2011

so i am ready to do some catching up. yep, that dreaded word. catching up. for me, it is about getting it done. and i mean that in a good way. putting my memories + photos into one place and printing them. that is what i want in the end. in my dreams, i would love to find the time to go back to 2007 and put together a full project life album and a family photo yearbook containing all of the photos that i take each year (and that would be a lot of photos). i would also like to have yearly books for each of my boys. oh, and a book containing all of my blog posts printed too. but since i live in a crazy, busy world and real life just doesn't let me get too caught up in dreaming, i needed something that was fast, easy and doable for catching up on documenting our family story. since i have a full project life album for 2012 and i'm current on project life for 2013, i decided to go back to 2011 and get it done.

enter digital project life. hello fun + easy! since all of my photos are already named by date and in files by month and year, this process was pretty simple for me. (well, finding the photos was simple. choosing which photos to use was another story!)

now the thing is that i did not take quite as many everyday photos in the beginning of 2011 as i do these days. so filling in our 2011 pages has been a bit of a different process than how i do project life these days. i did not have stories or details written down about each week to use in our 2011 project life album. at first, all of the chaos of not having photos and stories to fill my weekly two page spread really bothered me. it even held me back from getting started. i mean, how was i supposed to do my 2011 project life in the way that i do my current project life??? i like having each week of the year filled up nicely in two pages. i do not like to skip weeks. (yes, it is the chronological order crazy side of me coming out!) this was very frustrating for me.

but isn't the point to get it done? so i took a deep breath and let it go. i have what i have and i can't change that. but i can document all that i do have. so i just went with whatever i had in my 2011 photo files. and from my memory. and guess what? letting go of my own rules has been really fun! and seeing the pages come together has been really rewarding. in the end, these pages really do tell our story.

so i'm going to share some of my pages here as i complete them. it is a process to get the entire year done. and i'm also working on lots of other projects too. so what i'm doing is giving myself small goals. just working on a few pages for each month at one time. then i don't feel the pressure to stay up night after night trying to catch up on everything right away.

seeing the finished pages is just the inspiration that i need to keep on working on this little by little. i cannot wait to get the entire year done and printed in a 12x12 photo book!

here are a my january 2011 pages... some weeks i kept it super simple and just used photos + project life core kit cards. some weeks i did some journalling. some weeks i did more. some weeks i did less. for me it really is about getting it done. so i just did whatever felt right.
